Games to Watch: Week 3

A pre-season look at games of interest for Week 3.....

McCallie @ St. Xavier (OH): One of the best in TN faces off against one of the best in Ohio when McCallie travels to St. Xavier. This will be the first match-up bewteen the 2 teams, St.X struggled to a 5-7 record last season but consistently one of the top teams in Ohio with a long track record if sending players to the NFL.

Powell @ Oak Ridge: This game will go a long way into sorting out the contenders for the 5A title. OR surprised people with their scrimmage against Maryville. Powell is still a top 10 team in 5A.

Germantown @ Houston: When you think of big rivalries in this state, this game doesn't instantly come to my mind, but it's an intense rivalry. This game will have significant impact on playoff seeding for Region 8-6A

Mt. Juliet @ Gallatin: Good chance this game determines the champion of Region 4-6A, at the very least big seeding implications for the playoffs

Beech @ Riverdale: A week after traveling to face Henry Co., Riverdale will play host to another 7-5A program, Beech. Both programs pride themselves on being physical, so play at the line of scrimmage will be critical.

Waverly @ Mt. Pleasant: Match-up of two Region 5-2A foes likely determines who is the champion.

Maryville @ Bradley Central: This game has major implications for playoff seeding in Region 2-6A, but could also feature 2 teams that are ranked in the top 5 by the time this game rolls around.

Anderson Co. @ Bearden: This match-up will have no shortage of talent on the offensive side of the ball, this game could definitely end up being a shootout.

Oakland @ Haywood: A week after making a long trip to Center Grove, Oakland has to make another long trip to 4A power Haywood. Both teams love to run the ball, this has the makings of a old school game.

Tottenville (NY) @ Alcoa: Not often you'll see a team from the Northeast come to TN. Tottenville is a solid program, but Alcoa might be the best public school program in TN.

Centennial @ Indy: In years past, this game would have been a region match-up but that's changed with Centennial's move to 5A. Both programs are teams that aren't considered the best in their region, but it's not a stretch they could be by the end of the season.

Cookeville @ White Co: This will be the 87th meeting of a rivalry that dates back to 1929. It's not a stretch to say these 2 schools don't like each other,  AT ALL. Last years meeting produced a wild game that saw White Co. emerge victorious by a score of 59-54.

David Crockett @ Daniel Boone: The Musket Bowl has been played every year since 1971 with Boone having a large lead in the series. That doesn't mean this game is any less significant, very big deal for those in NE TN.

Other games considered: Ravenwood @ Blackman, Brentwood @ Hendersonville,  Fayetteville @ Giles Co., Upperman @ Macon Co.
