Week 2 Review

Class 5A & 6A
- Shelbyville surprised alot of people across their mid-state with their upset of Marshall County. It was a big step forward for a program that has had a tough couple of years. The big key in their win was defensive adjustments made at halftime. If they can continue that, Shelbyville should win 5-5A pretty easily and might. D able to make some noise in the postseason.

- August 25th, 2023 will always be remembered fondly for those around the Brentwood program as they secured their first win over Brentwood Academy, 21-18. Combination of solid defense and a great performance by QB Baylor Hayes. Their win over BA gives the Bruins legitimacy as a 6A title contender

- In all the pre-season talk about Region 2-6A, Farragut has been a team largely ignored. That changed in Week 2 when the Admirals were able to grind Powell down for a 28-21 victory. Their upcoming Gans against West gives them a chance for se real momentum before they enter region play

- Henry County's vaunted homefield advantage struck again last Friday, helping them over an upset over Riverdale. The Patriots were able to impose their will with a dominant running Gans, racking up 275 rushing yards and 20 first downs.

- After suffering through a brutal 2-9 campaign in 2022, Rhea Co looked like the teams of old, rushing for over 400 yards to catapult themselves to a 28-21 upset of Red Bank

Class 3A & 4A
- Special shout out to Sequoyah,  who snapped a losing streak that dates back to the 2018 season in their 55-19 win over Tellico Plains. Here's hoping they have more wins coming this season.

- Playing a brutal preseason schedule has paid off for Pearl-Cohn, allowing to score their 2nd consecutive upset of a D-II school in their 15-11 win over CPA. These early season successes put the Firebirds to the front of the line when it comes to 4A title favorites.

- Last Friday,  Macon Co. achieved something they haven't done in 36 years: win at Trousdale County, cruising to a 42-0 victory.

- Watertown rode a dominant defense en route to a 17-7 win over Gordonsville, setting up a key region matchup with Sequatchie County.

- Hardin County scored their first big win of the season with a 34-28 victory over Giles County, setting up a big region match-up with South Gibson in Week 3

Class 1A & 2A
- Dresden surprised alot of people around the state with their resounding 42-14 win over 1A defending champion McKenzie. It wasn't the result that was surprising, but the large margin over the Rebels just one week removed from a big win over Huntingdon.

- Throughout Coach White's tenure at Moore County, Fayetteville has been a thorn in their side,  going 0-4 from 2020-2022. Last Friday the Raiders exorcised those demons, winning 34-14 on the strength of 250 yards of total offense from QB Dawson White.
