Week 4 Preview

List of the top games across the state for Week 4: Alcoa (3-0) @ Greeneville (2-0): 2 of the best in East TN regardless of class do battle on Thursday Night. Both teams have been challenged early on against teams in 6A. Since this is a early game, I'm picking Alcoa over Greeneville.  Henry County (3-0) @ Brentwood (3-0): The first of what should be two great games involving large schools from Middle & West TN. Brentwood has gotten to 3-0 on the strength of its defense and QB Baylor Hayes whereas Henry County has used a physical run game to shorten games for its defense. Riverdale (2-1) @ Germantown (3-0): The 2nd marquee Middle-West match-up. Germantown town represents the 3rd straight top tier opponent Riverdale has faced where Germantown escaped by the skin of its teeth last week with a 14-13 win against crosstown rival Houston. Both teams have some things in common with a solid defense and good QB play. Knoxville West (3-0) @ Maryville (2-1): This game is big for Maryville f

Week 3 Review

Class 5A & 6A Brentwood 43 Hendersonville 6: The Bruins continued the hot start to their season, dominating the previously undefeated Commandos. Brentwood was led by QB Baylor Hayes with 180 yards passing, next up is a date with 5A perennial power Henry County. Antioch 18 Cane Ridge 15: Antioch broke their 22 game winless streak in style, besting rival Cane Ridge for the first time in over a decade. The win sends a message that the Bears are moving in the right direction under 2nd year HC Devin Arnold. Bradley Central 21 Maryville 13: The Bears got a big monkey off their back, defeating Maryville for the first time in 14 meetings. The win signals a potential shift in 6A in East TN. Bradley was led by QB Kaleb Martin, who accounted for over 300 yards of total offense. Oak Ridge 35 Powell 21: Oak Ridge rode a dominant 2nd half en route to their first win over Powell since 2020. The victory also represents their first 2-0 since 2018. Centennial 29 Independence 23 (OT): Centennial over

Week 3 GAMEDAY Picks & Review of AHS-CR, OR-PHS

Before I get started with the picks, I want to review a few games from Thursday Night...... Antioch 18 Cane Ridge 15- The Bears took a major step forward last night, ending a 22 game winless streak as well as beating Cane Ridge for the 1st time in 10 years. With their win, it puts Antioch into  good position to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Oak Ridge 35 Powell 21- Powell dominated a game by about every stat you could come up with in the first half except for the score, which was tied at 7 going into the break. The Wildcats were able to capitalize on a controversial call and score out of the break, making it 14-7. Near the end of the third quarter, OR made a big 4th down stop near midfield and would score 7 plays later, score now 21-7. Powell was able to counter with a scoring drive to make it 21-13. Then, with 4:16 to play, Oak Ridge struck with a 77yd passing TD from Stansberry to Rembert. Powell refused to give up, cutting the lead to 28-21 with :54 to play,

Week 3 Preview

Powell (1-1, #4 AP 5A) @ Oak Ridge (1-0):  These teams are no longer region opponents, but this game looms as a large test for both teams early in the season. Their Week 1 win against Jefferson County was a step in the right direction, but a win over Powell vaults the Wildcats onto a shortlist of 5A title contenders. Maryville (2-0,#3 AP 6A) @ Bradley Central (2-0, #2 AP 6A): For the last 25 years, the Rebels have had a death grip on their district/region, winning 22 championships in a row. Bradley Central represents the biggest threat to that streak in recent memory, featuring 4 skill players with offers from Power 5 programs. It's the classic speed v. power match-up.  Beech (1-1, #8 AP 5A) @ Riverdale ( 1-1, #8 AP 6A): A contest of 2 teams that are eager to get back on the right track after tough losses to West TN programs. Both will play a physical brand of football but go different ways about it. Riverdale's passing attack v. Beech secondary will be a key matchup that could
